These pieces are a process of making, controlled breaking, mending, and tending. They are saggar fired, fired in a clay box and surrounded with organic materials that burn off during firing and create marks from contact and color from fuming. This series relates to a brain bleed I had several years ago which impacts my word retrieval. I have been exploring other pathways to knowledge and the connection to the divine which can occur from listening to right brain, intuitive input. In "Gateway to the Spirit World" a kiva appeared with a ladder to the sky. Kivas are like temples in the earth for spiritual practice in the Hopi tradition. "Other Ways of Knowing" was the template for the large scale "Beingness: Other Ways of Knowing."
